About
I have always had a love of nature and spending time outdoors. You will often find me on the coast path sketchbook in hand quickly recording the flora and fauna, making close-up sketches of flower petals or seed pods. Artists for generations have flocked to Cornwall because of the quality of light and I have followed in their footsteps. My canvases are vibrant and textured with colourful layers of paint built up over time.

Maggie Matthews was born in Blaina, a small mining village in South Wales in 1964. She studied Fine Art at Newport College of Art and Design followed by a degree at Exeter College of Art and in 1988 moved to West Cornwall where she still lives and works.
